November 11, 2011 Veteran's Day service - 9am - Mare Island Cemetery. The Tradition Goes On: Since 1996 the Mare Island Historic Park Foundation has been celebrating Memorial day and Veterans day at the Mare Island Cemetery at 9AM. This year on November 11th, the O'Kane Division of the Sea Cadets will again provide the Color Guard. Ceremony will include a wreath laying at the USS Boston Monument, which honors sailors killed while loading ammunition at Mare Island in 1892. Taps will be played by Lt. Horton of the Vallejo Police Dept. A souvenir photo of a Mare island event will be made available to attendees. Anyone needing guidance to the Cemetery should arrive to caravan at the Tennessee St. entrance to Mare Island by 8:45AM. A special History presentation for those who stay after the playing of TAPS.
December 18, 2011 The Annual Christmas Concert at St. Peter's Chapel. Vallejo Choral Society performing, 2pm. Call 707-280-5742 or 707-557-1538 to reserve tickets. Also available at the Mare Island Museum, located at Railroad Ave and 8th Street on Mare Island, Vallejo & Naval Historical Museum,734 Marin Street, and Vallejo Convention and Visitors Bureau in Vallejo.
